Working with submodels : Adding a submodel to the model

Adding a submodel to the model diagram

Case 1: constructing an empty submodel

  1. Click on the submodel symbol on the toolbar.
  2. Move the mouse into a blank area of the screen.
  3. Drag the mouse diagonally (the submodel envelope will drag with you) until you have enclosed the area you wish to contain the submodel.
  4. Release the mouse button.
  5. You can then insert model elements in the normal way into this space; or you can load a Simile model in from file.

Case 2: enclosing existing submodel elements in a submodel

  1. Ensure that the elements you wish to enclose in a submodel envelope are arranged in a group, so that it is possible to enclose them in a rectangle without also enclosing model elements that you do not wish to be part of the submodel.
  2. Click on the submodel symbol in the Simile toolbar.
  3. Move the mouse into a blank area of the screen.
  4. Drag the mouse diagonally (the submodel envelope will drag with you) until you have enclosed the elements you wish to include in the submodel.
  5. Release the mouse button.
