Tcl/Tk ResourcesWish And GoIn the course of our work, we compile Tcl/Tk from source for the MacOS X 10.2 platform. For the benefit of other users of MacOS X 10.2, we are pleased to make this build freely available. (If you are using MacOS X 10.3 or later, then Daniel Steffen’s excellent TclTk Aqua Batteries-Included distribution is better for you.) This “Wish And Go” distribution consists of Tcl/Tk 8.4.11 embedded in a stand-alone “Wish Shell” application, with many popular extensions. It is an excellent basis for creating MacOS X native applications, using your own Tcl/Tk scripts.
NotesThe “Wish” application can be run from the distribution media, or can be installed by drag-and-drop to your local drive. The application has the usual MacOS X bundle format; in other words, what appears as a single icon in the Finder is actually a directory with the name “Wish.app”. Within that, there is a prescribed layout for certain required files and folders. The extensions are included in the folder “Contents/lib”. The extensions included broadly correspond to those in Daniel Steffen’s TclTkAquaBI distribution. The Tcl and Tk frameworks are built from the core-8-4-branch tip on 12 July 2005. LinksThere are two key sources of help and support for using Tcl/Tk on MacOS X. Further optionsYou may be interested in Tclkit. This is a single-file executable (i.e. not an application bundle) for running Tcl/Tk scripts. This build is for MacOS X 10.2 Jaguar. Download tclkit-8.4.11-jaguar. |
