influence arrow option

Can I use the influence arrow option to "use values made in same time step" even if it's not linked to an iteration clock? I have a compartment in my eelgrass model for "new growth" of a shoot which is then partitioned through two flow arrows into leaf and root compartments. The partitioning should happen at the same time as the growth is occurring, not delayed by a time step, so I've set the influence arrows to the flow gates from the "new growth" compartment to "use values made in same time step". The help file confused me a bit for how this should be used (I've never used the iteration symbol...)

Much appreciated!

It isn't necessary to "use values made in same time step" in this case. The seperate root and leaf growth flows should be calculated from (influenced by) the inflow to the "new growth" compartment , not the compartment. All the flows will be calculated in the same time step before the integration to calculate the compartment values. The partitioning will happen at the same time as the growth is occurring, however, this means that the outflows of the "new growth" compartment will equal the inflows and so the value of the "new growth" compartment will always be zero!

Possibly the total growth you calculate as the inflow to the "new growth" compartment should be an intermediate variable instead of a flow. The root and leaf growth flows would be calculated from this new variable and no compartment would be needed for "new growth".
