Simile and ArcGIS

During the first half of 2004, UNIGIS student Edu Boer wrote a short report about the connection between ArcGIS and Simile (rel. 3.2)

Summarized: Although he is critical about the present level of interoperability, he states that Simile holds a promise for GIS-based space-time modeling.

the blue screen

Hello, Recently I've been faced with a crashed computer and the dreaded blue screen when I attempt to save in Simile 3.3 or build the model. I use Windows XP on a Dell Dimension - has anyone else been faced with this problem? Thanks, Lora

no runtime-environment poping up

hi,

I have just installed simile on a new computer (win 2000) everything seems to work but if you build the model in c++ no runtime environment window pops up. there is also no error message. I also tried to build another model in c++first the runtime window poped up, everything worked well. I closed the model, I opened it again, built it again in c++, no runtime window poping up anymore...

if you build it in tcl everything seems to work well.

does any one have an idee what the problem could be (and especially how it could be solved) ???

Questions on Simile

I downloaded the trial copy of Simile earlier this year. My congratulations for coming up with ideas that will refresh the System Dynamics community!

I am looking for new alternatives in military modelling using System Dynamics (or similar tools). Presently I use Vensim, and based on that experience I would like to ask the following questions on Simile. (Sorry, I have not had time to work seriously with Simile):

Support for non-English language character sets

In version 4.0 we will achieve two of our goals in making Simile more easily used by modellers whose working language is not English.

Firstly, we better support the use of extended western European characters (such as ñ) in parameter names. At present (v3.3), these are transliterated to underscore characters in the equation. Although this did not prevent the equation from functioning perfectly correctly, we believe that using the extended character set will greatly improve the ease of reading equations written using non-English words.

What's new in Simile v4.0 - sneak preview

Simile v4.0 Feature List

We're planning to release Simile v4.0 in April, after an extensive test program, but in the meantime most of the new features are in place. Here's a sneak preview...

* Cut / copy / paste elements on the model diagram canvas using a new, more consistent selection tool.

* Open multiple models simultaneously, allowing copy and paste to work between models.
