I have been looking at some of the models in the Mondel Gallry to learn more about certain aspects of Simile. I notice that the ones I have looked at include the .sml files, but not the associated .shf files. Are these available somewhere on the website? One model I have look at is the animal1.sml model.
On a related, how does one see which .shf file a particular .sml file is associated with? I have run into issues opening .sml files when they are associated with an .shf file, but the latter cannot be found. So far I have been unable to find a way to see and change these associations.

Some of the models in the Gallery do not include a .shf file. In these cases the user can display individual component values by hovering over the components in the model diagram or the explorer pane, or add I/O tools such as the plotter themselves for various components to create their own visualization setup.
When you save a model, the saved model file will include a reference to the .shf that was loaded or saved with the current I/O tool setup. This is saved as a relative path, so if the model file is moved to a new location before it is opened again (e.g., to a new drive) the .shf file should also be moved to the same relative location.
If the I/O tool setup has changed since you last loaded or saved a .shf file, you will be prompted to save the current setup when you save the model.
