Difficulties with the starting of Simile

Dear Simile support team,

I just bought a license for using Simile standard edition. However, I could not run and save a model, nor open an existing model. Below you’ll find the messages I received from Simile. Could you please give me a hand on that?

Best regards,
Paulo Salles

I installed Simile and tried to create a simple model, following a tutorial.

Having the model done, I went to the Model menu and selected ‘Run”.

A box with a message came up:

 “Instantiating expressions from node values”

and entered a loop so that Simile has to be killed by Control+Alt+Del.

In another situation, an additional box has opened with the msg:

“Simile encountered an unexpected problem:

can't read "title": no such variable

can't read "title": no such variable

    while executing

"ExpandQuery $specifics $title $icon  $message $helpRef $parent $opts"

    (procedure "Query" line 61)

    invoked from within

"Query {error existence_error(source_sink,C:/Documents\ and\ Settings/Usuário/My\ Documents/My\ Simile\ files/sim15000/Desktop1/model.cpp) open/3} e..."

    invoked from within

"catch $args retVal"

Press "Help" to display a relevant page from Simile's documentation.”

OPENNING AN EXISTING MODEL

I tried to open old SIMILE files (both in drive C and in a different drive) and received the following Simile error msg:

“Simile encountered an unexpected problem: can’t read “title”: no such variable”

OPENNING AN EXISTING MODEL FROM THE FOLDER “Recent…”

When I try to open a file from this folder, I received the following msg:

“Could not create an autosave file called C:/Documents and Settings/

Usuário/ My Documents/ My Simile files/ Desktop1.smx for this model. No autosave data will be stored until the model is stored somewhere else.”

------------------------<end of Simile msg>-------------------------

This seems to be caused by the á character in your username. This surprises me, as we have tried Simile out with usernames etc in Chinese characters and thought it was bomb proof! Maybe your system is using some encoding other than UTF-8.
We'll get on and fix it. In the mean time, you can work around it by creating a new user on your machine with only Ascii characetrs in their name, and log on as them when running Simile.
