What's new in Simile v5.2?
Simile 5.2 is a maintenance release, which has been brought out early in order to make available some important fixes prior to some major work on loading and saving model data. Here is a list of some of the more significant improvements that have been made over Simile v5.1:
-
The most serious one: submodels whose membership was set by the number of data records in a file had faulty dynamics; components inside them would stick at their initial values when they should have updated. They now work OK
-
We have fixed a problem that prevented data being loaded from .csv files if an index was an enumerated type;
-
We also fixed a problem that prevented models from automatically starting when opened if they had saved parameter data in byte array format associated with them;
-
The new functions 'with_greatest' and with_least' did not always change their return value when their arguments changed; now they do.
-
XML-format parameter metafiles are now all in UTF-8 encoding, preventing some problems that occurred when trying to move these files cross-platform;
-
Cutting or copying a helper window failed to put its graphics on the clipboard; this was caused by the change to the helper app interface in v5.0. It is now fixed for Windows; also helper app and model diagram graphics now go onto the clipboard in the Linux version too.
-
Mac version graphics have also been improved. Role arrows and ghosts now have a distinctive look, and no longer cause a crash when exporting the diagram in Postscript.
-
Parameter files were sometimes saved with models to which they did not belong, if these were opened alongside or after the ones they did belong to. This has been fixed;
-
The cursor was not always the right one for the current mode. Fixed;
-
Sometimes Simile failed to detect a circular chain of influences before trying to build a model -- these are now properly detected and brought to the modeller's attention as such
-
Another possible problem, where a parameter file refers to values that are no longer in the model, is also handled more elegantly
-
Entry fields for array parameters were greyed out so they could only be loaded initially from files; now you can type them straight in
-
We now have smoother behaviour when going above the maximum model complexity allowed in the Evalation or Teaching editions, fixing some problems that occurred when using scripting in these editions
-
Fixed an error message that occasionally appeared when dragging the sashes (pane borders) in the model execution window
-
Parameters for per-record submodels can now be loaded and saved as byte arrays in the metafile.
