9th October 2006: Simile v4.7 released

What's new in Simile v4.7?

Released 9th October 2006

Simile 4.7 is a maintenance release, primarily to fix problems that have become apparent as more people start using Simile. It also allows models to be saved in a format suitable for publishing via our forthcoming Web interface to model execution. Here is a list of some of the more significant issues that have been addressed since Simile v4.6:

  • Some numerical values would cause an inappropriate error message when entered into the equation for a component. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed and variable parameters are handled better in debug mode.
  • There was a problem copying a display tool to the clipboard under Windows if no printer was attached; this has been fixed.
  • Changing the time unit after the model has been running no longer causes the model time to jump from, e.g., 100 days to 100 weeks; now the values are scaled so this change makes the current time become 14.2857... weeks.
  • There was a restriction that an equation in a base model could not refer to values from more than one exclusive role of an association submodel -- this has been removed.
  • An error was occurring when trying to load a set of enumerated type names from a column in a data file. This has been fixed.
  • Segment violation errors caused by, e.g., models trying to read array members from beyond the bounds of the array, are now caught cleanly (this bug, and the one above, appeared in v4.5)
  • Setting submodels to execute on 'New params only' now works consistently
  • Some menu and dialogue text was unreadably small with some display setups. All fonts are now a constant number of pixels.
  • Certain ill-formed equation entries in the Windows version could cause the dialogue box to hang -- something I claimed to have eliminated in the last release! It's now even more robust.
  • Some sequences of operations involving ghosts or cross-border flows could result in duplicate captions within a submodel, and thus confusions with values -- these have been caught and fixed
  • If ghost link displaying was turned on they would go solid when selected, and stay solid. Now they stay stippled as they should.
  • The MacOS version will now start and run, and execute models in debug mode, without the developer tools having to be installed.
  • Many even more minor bugs have been fixed.
