Description

This is the Johad (rainwater storage tank) model to accompany the book Realizing Community Futures (J. Vanclay, R. Prabhu & F. Sinclair, Earthscan, 2006, ISBN 1 84407 383 1) .

The model diagram is not quite the same as Figure 5.4 of the book, because the ‘wallpaper’ in the submodels has been omitted (instead, we’ve used coloured backgrounds for clarity), and an extra submodel has been added to the right of the model. This additional submodel ‘Standardize weather’ provides the ability to ensure that successive simulations experience exactly the same weather. This was necessary, because the weather pattern is based on random numbers, and unless the weather is pre-set at model initiation, then the sequence of random numbers may vary because of other components of the model (e.g., random numbers used to predict is a tank is destroyed). Apart from this small addition, Johad.sml is the same as the model described in the book, and is the model that was used to create Figures 6.1 and 6.6.
