NB the editor itself lives in the fckeditor module directory so if an old module is move out of the way the modules/fckeditor/fckeditor must be copied into the new module directory.
I tried messing about with the access control settings because the FCKeditor wasn't showing up. It now appears for me (and presumably you other administrators) if the box to give access is unchecked (http://www.simulistics.com/drupal/admin/user/access), strange! (Administrors are not to be confused with THE admin who corresponds to a unix root but they do have almost all permissions.)
