Simile for 64-bit ARM Linux released!

Simile is now available as a Debian package for the new generation of tiny single-board computers built on the ARM64 architecture. This allows Simile models to be incorporated into home automation and IoT projects. These devices can typically run Armbian, LMDE or Ubuntu.

Simile version 6.9 released

Changes since v6.8:

Improvements:

  • Database access has now been completely overhauled. This means that model parameters can be read from a MySQL database in Linux, and reading them from an ODBC source such as .xls works in 64-bit Windows. .xlsb, .xlsm and .xlsx formats can also be used, and the data logger tool can write to any of these in Windows and to MySQL in Linux
  • New 'order' function allows arrays to be sorted efficiently

Simile version 6.8 released

Changes since 6.7 original:

OS Compatibility

Windows version uses latest GUI toolkit allowing models with non-ASCII names to be opened by doubleclicking or dragging.

Also, other files referred by the model (parameter metafile and helper setup file) can now open automatically with it if they have non-ASCII characters in their names.

Mac version now includes latest GUI toolkit, rather than using older version built in to Mac, reducing crashes.

Linking model files and configuration files, plus question about interfaces

1) I am trying to understand how model files and configuration files are linked to each other. Sometimes when I open an existing model, an associated configuration file is automatically opened; other times it seems to open a blank configuration file. If I have created several configuration files for the same model, how does the software know which of the configuration files to open?

2) When I am looking at a model diagram, I see options under the Model Menu to Save Interface or Load Interface. What is an interface and how does it differ from a configuration?

Problems with XML export

Both Roel and I have tried to export a model in XML format and are getting a message indicating “Interacting with web service to cover file…”, but nothing happens and after a while, we are asked if we are connected to the internet, which we are. This happes with both Mac (v6.7) and PC (v5.9) versions.
